Pictures don't do it justice.  And it's not completely done yet.  Spent the evening at Home depot looking for big enough in diameter - pipe insulation... And ended up next door at petsmart spending $127 on dog food, fish and a fake rock.

I put the 4th layer of SheeeeeLaaaaaack on the Hiking Stick.  It is getting so glossy and smooth.  You know what the secret to that is don't ya?  Sanding in between layers.  Yup, that is the trick.  Here is the list of todo's for the hiking stick Project:

1. DE-BARK
2. SAND DOWN
3. NARROW TIP END WITH WOOD CHISEL
4. STAIN
5. POLYURETHENE

No actually, I was going to say that I went to Home Depot at lunch.  I picked up some replacement drill bits, little teeny tiny nails (for the hiking medallions), some stain and polyurethane spray.  You know, so I can get started on that little hiking stick project.  Maybe if it's nice out I'll put a coat of stain on it.

Cooooooool.

 I have this broom handlely thing that I was going to make into a hiking stick.  But all the effort, materials and tools (work in a possible run to the ER - sharp tools you know what I mean...) and I'm not sure it's worth it.  I mean compared to just getting a really cool one made by El diablo or from a hiking stick store (yes I found one).  I ( Read more... )
